Among India’s oldest surviving European forts (1503–06, Portuguese), hexagonal Pallippuram Fort stands on Vypin island north of Kochi. Later held by the Dutch and then Travancore, its thick laterite‑limestone walls and arched portals evoke the earliest colonial phase on Kerala’s coast.
