Phantom Rock ( Cheengeri Mala ) - History details

Near Ambalavayal in Wayanad, Phantom Rock is a skull‑shaped metamorphic outcrop that gazes across the Karapuzha backwaters and the Edakkal–Cheengeri hills. Reached by a brief walk from parking about 17 kilometres from Kalpetta, it sits around 2,600 feet above sea level and is photogenic at sunrise or sunset. Conservation notes since 2009 warn that nearby quarrying threatens this fragile natural landmark and its surrounding viewpoints.
