Ranchi Lake ( Bada Talab ) - History details

Excavated in 1842 by British agent Colonel Onsely, Ranchi Lake sits at the base of Ranchi Hill in the city centre. Spread across ~53 acres, it features a promenade, boating areas and a towering 33‑ft Swami Vivekananda statue. Evenings draw walkers and families. Surrounded by Upper Bazar and Marwari College, it remains a historic leisure landmark of the capital.
